The last weeks of class are spent planning and then creating web pages.  Students will be taught some basic HTML language and learn the basics of how to lay out a web page.  Then students will be introduced to Frontpage and allowed to design the rest of their pages in that program which will write the code for them.  Web pages will be posted to the old TMS site.

Following the career discussion students will develop a resume on line.  Then we discuss the requirements for the Business card unit.  Students will be required to find a community member who needs an actual business card.  Immediate relatives can not be used.  Students will have to meet with that person 3 times for signatures, approval of designs, and for final critique of their performance.  During this unit students will discuss design, space, and layout concepts for their business cards.  They will design at least 3 different cards for their client.  Students will gain a better understanding of the program Publisher.

These weeks are spent making a commercial.  The purpose of the commercial is two fold.  This gives students a chance to show mastery of several programs they learned how to use in 6th and 7th grade.  I expect to help very little during these weeks.  I also am observing student group work, use of time table, creativity, use of and understanding of technology, and productivity.  Students also use critical thinking skills and problem solving in trying to figure out how to use the technology available to its best advantage. 

First week of 8th Grade Computer Class whether you are in 1st 12 weeks, 2nd or 3rd, will cover rules and Exploration of Careers.  Students will do an interest survey, explore careers of their choice, look at college information and compare schools, discuss the requirements for the Hathaway Scholarship, discuss options other than college bound, and have a speaker discussing Wyoming jobs.
